Born in Freiburg,
Germany, in 1961, Sid Hille finished highschool in 1980. He traveled for
several years, living in the United States and in India, until he settled in
the Netherlands in 1986. From 1987-1994 Sid studied piano, jazz-improvisation
and composition at the conservatory in Utrecht, graduating as 'D.M.'-teaching
musician.
Since 1994 he has lived in Finland, where he works as the coordinator of the
jazz department at the Ostrobothnian Conservatory in Kokkola. Next to his
reputation as a passionate and successful jazz eductator Sid has in recent
years developed a good name as a performer, recording artist and producer as
well.
Since his debut album Dunjin's Dancein 1993, and To be Frankin
1997 Sid has released two piano solo albums, Deep North-The Quiet
Placein 1997 and Reflectionsin 1998, and another jazz album with his
own compositions called Platypus
Just recently Sid published a book with a collection of his compositions for
teaching purposes (13 jazz pieces, Satna Music).
Sid has performed in solo concerts and with his quartet on festivals and tours
through Finland, Sweden, The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. In various other
bands and settings he has toured and played in most European countries, in
India and the USA.
Next to his love for music and improvisation Sid has been interested in
meditation and life philosophies. He started practising Yoga at the age of
thirteen and in 1981 met the Indian mystic Osho who was to have a profound
impact on Sid's perspectives and perceptions. The 1997 recording 'Deep North-
The Quiet Place' is a hommage to the times Sid had spent in Osho's commune.
